Description

William Ellis Hurlburt (1897-1974) was a physician, ornithologist and naturalist who resided in Vineland, Ont. for much of his life. In 1936, he was honoured by the Avicultural Society of America for being the first to breed certain species of foreign birds. That same year, he co-authored A preliminary list of the birds of Lincoln and Welland Counties with R.W. Sheppard and G.H. Dickson. By 1951, Dr. Hurlburt had been successful at rearing between 30 to 40 different species.
