Abstract
Fonds consists of material related to Orville James (Jimmy) Manson and his family. Most of the materials are slides, photographs, film, and some genealogical material. Two photograph albums feature photographs from Jimmy’s service with the Canadian Navy during World War II. There are several photographs of ships, including H.M.C.S. Hamilton, H.M.C.S. Frontenac, H.M.C.S. Kapuskaping, H.M.C.S. Assinaboine, and H.M.C.S. Matapedia. Some photographs capture naval action, such as a sinking U-boat after ramming, fighting fire aboard a Destroyer caused by enemy shelling, and the burial at sea of a Canadian Sailor. Interior photographs of ships, as well as crew members, are also included. Most of the slides and film feature family occasions and local scenery. Some of these include the Welland Canal, and the Port Robinson lift bridge over the canal after it had been struck by a freighter.
