Description

The Billy Bishop biography entitled William Avery “Billy” Bishop (1894-1956) was the first in a series of thematic studies for readers aged 8-12. Each book presented a portrait of a Canadian of accomplishment. The book was written by William Mathieson of Belleville. Billy Bishop became Britain’s leading air ace at the age of 24. He was a commander of the first Canadian air force and the most decorated man in World War I. After the war, he was a partner in a pioneer commercial air service and then an executive with an oil company. In World War II, he helped Canada’s Air Force and the Commonwealth Air Training Plan to become a model for other countries. His book, Winged Peace was published in 1944.
