Abstract
A leaflet advertising Buffalo Heights, “Canada’s Choice Lake Shore Development”. The front page provides some of the selling features of the development, including its proximity to Buffalo, Bertie Bay (best sandy bathing beach), 40 foot lots, and electric street lights. The inside of the leaflet provides a map of the development, showing the lots that have been sold and those still available to be purchased. A list of the advantages of purchasing a lot is included, as well as a picture of the entrance to Bertie sand beach and a Spanish style bungalow in Buffalo Heights. The back page has a regional map showing the location of Buffalo Heights.
Description
Buffalo Heights Development Co. was an American development company from Buffalo that wanted to build a model community near Fort Erie, Canada, similar to affluent communities in Buffalo. With the opening of the Peace Bridge in 1927, many believed that growth and development in Fort Erie would follow. However, the stock market crash in 1929 provided a major setback to the project. The project was never completed, although remnants of the design of the subdivision still remain.
