Abstract

A three dollar bank note of the Niagara Suspension Bridge Bank. It is signed by the bank’s President (Jos. Hamilton) and Cashier (G. McMicken). A sketch of the bridge is included on the note. The name of the person the note is made out to is illegible. It is dated May 1, but the year is not clear. It is likely 1840 or 1841.

Description

The Niagara Suspension Bridge Bank operated in Queenston in 1840. The bank issued notes in denominations of ten dollars, five dollars, three dollars, and one dollar, and featured a drawing of the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge, ten years prior to its construction. The notes are signed by the bank’s Cashier, Gilbert McMicken, and President, Joseph Hamilton. The bank failed a year after its establishment.
