Abstract

Contains accounts of a British attack at Black Rock on July 11, 1813, in dispatches received by Earl Bathurst from George Prevost (p. 680). It is written that “the block-houses, barracks, and navy yard, with one large schooner, were burnt: before the whole of the stores were taken away, the Enemy advanced, having been re-inforced by a body of Indians…it was deemed prudent to retreat to the boats”. Includes a return of the killed, wounded and missing. The Gentleman's Magazine and Historical Chronicle was a monthly periodical published in England during the years of 1736-1833. The volumes of interest from 1812-1815 were written and compiled by Sylvanus Urban, Gentleman. These volumes were Printed in London by Nichols, Son and Bentley at Cicero's Head, Red Lion Passage and Fleet Street.
