Abstract

Administrative material such as membership lists, meeting minutes, financial statements, reports, constitution, and correspondence are also included.

Description

The first Rotary Club was founded by Chicago attorney Paul Harris in 1905. It was one of the world’s first service organizations, consisting of a group of professionals with diverse backgrounds. The members would take turns hosting meetings in their offices, which is how the name Rotary was established. The organization quickly became international, with clubs on six continents 16 years after the founding of the first club. One of the most prolific and successful programs of Rotary International has been the fight to eradicate polio. The Rotary Club of Lincoln (Ontario) was established in 1997. The Club was launched with a Charter Night event on February 1, 1997, with 22 founding members. The Club has sponsored many community events and fundraisers over the years, including the Lamplighter Tour (live theatre performances focusing on local history); Stand by Me (a program that provides a venue for youth to learn and experience the organizations and activities available within the Town of Lincoln); and the Sunset Music Series in Charles Daley Park.
