Abstract
A 45 RPM vinyl record in sleeve titled “Souvenir Song of Niagara Falls”. Side 1 features George Bailey, the singing bus driver, singing Niagara Falls. Side 2 features the famous carillon bells at the Rainbow Bridge.
Description
George Bailey was born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, in 1944. He moved to Niagara Falls as a child and later worked in the tourism industry in various capacities, including general manager of the Sheraton Foxhead Hotel, director of marketing at the Skylon Tower, and director of communication at the Niagara Parks Commission. He has written several books on Niagara Falls and served as guide to many high-profile visitors to the city including Princess Diana and Princes William and Harry, and U.S. president Jimmy Carter.
The Rainbow Tower is located in Niagara Falls, Ont., near the Canada-U.S. border. The tower was designed by Canadian architect William Lyon Somerville and was completed in 1947. It houses a carillon, a set of bells operated by a keyboard. The carillon is sounded three times per day. It was once operated by a resident musician, known as a carilloneur, but is now fully automated.
