Abstract
Notes, 1865, n.d. Contains 48 manuscript pages of notes on the Battle of Queenston Heights. Some of the notes are written by Wool and some in a secretarial hand. Most of the sheets are enclosed in a folded sheet of paper with a note on the front in Wool’s handwriting that reads “the enclosed papers refer to the Battle of Queenston, captured of its heights & the defeat of Major General Brock led by the 13th U.S. infantry; and the false statement made by Lieut. General Scott in his autobiography, where he says that [Mc?] and other officers carried the heights and defeated Gen. Brock, when neither was present, or participated in the slightest degree in either [ascending?] the heights or in the defeat of Brock & his troops”. The inside of the sheet at the end of the papers contains a note by Wool that reads “Papers Official including letter from Major General Van Rensellaer & Lieut. Col. & Captain Wool of the affair of Queenston on the 13th October 1812”. Also contains four pages in unknown handwriting of what appears to be a partial draft of a profile on Wool that may have been for the United States Democratic Review “Political Portraits with Pen and Pencil”, p. 435, November 1851.
